How to change your chosen pharmacy in the NHS App

A step-by-step guide to changing where your NHS prescriptions go, what to do if the app won't let you, and what happens to prescriptions already sent.

Your chosen pharmacy (sometimes called your nominated pharmacy) is where your GP sends your NHS prescriptions electronically. You can change it at any time, and it only takes a couple of minutes in the NHS App.

Step by step

  1. Open the NHS App and select Prescriptions.
  2. Select Your chosen pharmacy. You'll see the pharmacy your prescriptions go to now.
  3. Select Change your chosen pharmacy.
  4. Follow the instructions to find your new pharmacy. You can search by name or postcode.
  5. Check the name and address carefully, then confirm.

If you're choosing Brighton Hill Pharmacy, search for RG22 4EH and pick Brighton Hill Pharmacy, 3 Brighton Hill Parade. Medhill Pharmacy is on the same parade and shares our postcode, so it's worth a second look before you confirm.

When the app won't let you

The NHS App can't change your pharmacy if:

  • your GP surgery dispenses your medicines
  • you use more than one medicine or medical equipment supplier
  • you're managing someone else's account

In those cases, ask your GP surgery, or ask at the counter of the pharmacy you'd like to use and they can set it at your request.

What happens next

Prescriptions your GP issues after you've confirmed go to your new pharmacy. Anything you've already requested may still go to your old one, so the easiest time to switch is just before your next repeat is due. There's nothing to cancel at your old pharmacy, although if they order repeats for you, let them know.

Your choice

Choosing a pharmacy is always up to you, and you can change it again whenever you like. For more help, see the NHS App help pages or our prescriptions page.
