Ever rung your GP about a prescription and been told "we've sent it" — only to find it hasn't reached the pharmacy? You're not alone. Here's how we use the NHS Spine to fix it.
What the Spine actually is
The NHS Spine is the national IT backbone that handles Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) messages. When your GP signs a prescription, it goes onto the Spine, where your nominated pharmacy can pull it down.
In theory, this is instant. In practice, prescriptions sometimes get stuck in transit — usually because:
- The GP marked it "send to print" instead of EPS
- Your nomination was recently changed
- A technical hiccup at the GP's end
How we find them
We have NHS Spine access at the pharmacy. If you say "my GP sent it but you don't have it," we can:
- Check your nomination is set to us
- Search the Spine for any prescription issued to you in the last 30 days
- Call the GP surgery if it genuinely hasn't been sent
Most "missing" prescriptions are found within a few minutes.
Make us your nominated pharmacy
To stop this happening in the first place, nominate Brighton Hill on the NHS App:
Services → Nominated pharmacy → search "Brighton Hill Pharmacy, RG22"
Future scripts come straight to us, automatically.
