Pharmacy First is the NHS scheme that lets community pharmacists assess and treat seven common conditions without a GP appointment. Free, same day, no referral.
The 7 conditions
- Sinusitis (12+ years)
- Sore throat (5+ years)
- Earache / otitis media (1–17 years)
- Infected insect bites (1+ years)
- Impetigo (1+ years)
- Shingles (18+ years)
- Uncomplicated UTI (women 16–64)
If your symptoms match, we run through a brief NHS-approved checklist with you. If treatment is appropriate, we can supply it on the spot — including some antibiotics — at the standard NHS prescription charge (or free if you're exempt).
What it isn't
Pharmacy First isn't a substitute for a GP appointment if your symptoms are complex, recurring, or don't fit one of the seven boxes. We'll tell you straight if you need to see your doctor.
How to use it
Just pop in — no booking needed. Quieter mornings (10–12) are the easiest time. Bring your NHS number if you have it handy.
